What is YOUR Favorite Story?

Just out of curiosity, what kind of old-fashioned stories do you like?

I am looking for more to read and I am almost sure you have one because we all grew up with some sort of fairy tale or something like that. It does not matter what kind, I am all for it! I am a HUGE Greek stories fan, but I also like Celtic (Irish), Native American and (any) religious stories. Mostly Old Testament, saint stories, and anything involving Shiva or Mara (Hindu) - they are SO exciting! No offense Jesus, but you are not much for epic battles or cutting off body parts like St. Agatha. Hold on, someone got their ear cut off in the New Testament...

ANYWAYS, what kind of tales are your favorite?

Our Old Irish myths and legends were always my favourite thing to read about or go to see  We used to learn them for our history classes when we were little, and go to see one of them performed nearly every year, so we always had a nice helping of them from all around ^-^
Oh all those stories... Probably Oisin in Tír na nÓg (Oisin in the Land of Youth/Everyoung) is my favourite, along with anything to do with Fionn MacCuil or CúCullin

And then allll the different fairy myths I learned about in college

No, I am not a genious.

Greek mythology is boss, as is Egyptian mythology (Set v. Horus makes the battle between Cloud and Sephiroth look like a cat fight). Norse mythology is cool, as are classic fairy tales. And Edgar Allen Poe's short stories are made of win

I was raised with old testament tales, and I also get a lot of interest with greek mytology as well.

but the stories I like more are sci fiction! XD if you have some time, I recomend you a book called "ender's game". I think you will love it

I also grew with books like "the never ending story" or "momo", from michael ende. I suggest to take a look to them some time ^.-

OOOOOHHHH MYYY GOOOD! I remember all these from Celtic class! They are SO cool. Now I'm going to re-read the Myths and Folk Tales of Ireland I bought and check out those stories. Hmm... there's no children of Lir though... OFF TO THE LIBRARY!

My teacher was a busker in Ireland and sang all the stories to us. It was a little awkward too since my friend and I audited the class and we were the ONLY Asian teenagers in a sea of old, white people. They treated us like their grandkids whenever they saw us. Despite the odd feelings, we helped the class too because without us, they would have had trouble using the electronics and watching Father Ted.

You learned myths in college? We have a class that studies fairy tales and I am so sad I didn't take it. :( What kind did you study?

I like the idea of a loving God, but Old Testament smiting God is so fun!

Ooh, Enders Game - I have heard of it but I haven't been able to read it! Momo? What's it about?

Hehe, lucky you! Their such wonderful stories  And there are so many too! :D those are the mains though XD The Children of Lir is so sweet but sad... Love it ^-^

Ooo, that's so cool! 83 Haha, I know how that feels XD In my Folklore class there were about 4 teens and the rest mature students, and I was the only one who went to all the classes ^^;
You watched Father Ted too? WIN! :w00t:

What did we study? Well.. all about the fairies and ghosts in Ireland and the festivals and rituals connected to them, the wise women and cunning men, the myths and legends, the folktales and beliefs as well as how they lived in those times. Mostly things like Banshees, Leprechauns and my fave, the Pooka :D
Learning about the actual Irish heroes was something that was saved for my English course this year XD Learned all about Cúculain :D
